33 Seconds

POSTER DESIGN | SCHOOL PROJECT

The brief was to record a 33-second video and translate it into a printed poster that incorporates folding as part of its design.

After spending several days filming around London, capturing a range of everyday moments, I selected a 33-second clip recorded from my window. Having lived in London for two years, I was still struck by the constant noise of the roads - cars passing and sirens echoing - even after moving to a suburban area.

I manually transcribed the audio into onomatopoeic text, structuring it along an x-axis representing left and right audio channels, and a y-axis representing time.

As the viewer reads down the poster, bolded elements indicate louder sounds, while shifts in density help trace movement - such as larger vehicles passing from one side of the window to the other.

The poster was then folded so that the axes were the first element encountered, encouraging viewers to engage with and interpret the structure before unfolding the full piece.
